Traditional Swedish meatballs. At Christmas you can ad allspice.

Swedismetballs with brown sauce and lingonjam

500g (2 pounds) ground beef
1 dl (< 1/2 cup) bread crumb
1,5 dl (< 3/4 cup) milk
1,5 tsp salt
1/3 tsp black pepper
(1/3 tsp allspice)
2 tbsp chopped onion
1 egg

Brown sauce:

2 tbsp flour
0,5dl cream
1 dl milk
1 tsp soya
3 dl meat sauce and water
or 3dl veal Stock (2 tbsp) and water

1.Combine bread crumbs and 3/4 cup milk in a large mixing bowl. Let the milk soak into the crumbs for about 5 minutes.
2. Add chopped onion, egg, salt and pepper and finally stir in the ground beef until well blended.
3.Wash your hands, so the meat doesn't stick to your fingers, and form into balls about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
4. Put the meatballs in a frying pan and gently shake the pan occasionally.
5. Now it is time for the sauce. You can either make the souce in the fryin pan and use the meat sauce and water or you can use a saucepan with veal stock and water instead.
6. Stir flour with cold cream in a cup and add the milk.
7. Add this mixture to the pan and stir.
8. Add soya and continue boiling and stirring constantly, until sauce thickens.
9. Serve the meatballs with cooked potatoes and lingonberry jam.

Lingonberry jam is mostly used in Sweden but can be substituted with jelly from example cranberry or red currant.
